I completely agree people find it a lot easier and authentic to write about what they know because it's more relatable and honest. A lot of Kate's work she mentioned is "fiction that comes from a very real place". Even if some one doesn't intend for their work to come across as political, it feels like it because there's always some sort of problem or dilemma that a person/stories holds. Everything contains this feeling of right and wrong and choices to make that can be contraverisal so people relate it to having a political theme.
